What's new in
Local Area Cloud.
Local Area Cloud is actively built and shipping. Here's what we've added lately — across iPhone, Android, and the desktop apps. One account, one private cloud, getting better every month.
Displays: any screen as another monitor
- Turn a tablet, a spare laptop, a phone — any screen with a modern browser — into another monitor for your PC or Mac. Extend your desktop onto it or mirror it.
- Pair a screen once with a code. Touch works like a tablet, with a keyboard, and the PC's sound can play on the display too.
- Displays are shared by all your computers: connect from another PC and the one using it is asked first. Choose the resolution, or let LACloud pick a sharp one for the screen.
- On iPhone, Show my screen puts your phone on any of your displays. The phone's page lists the displays you're using first.
Your car's screen as a monitor — tested on Tesla
- Turn on Car mode, share your laptop's internet over Wi-Fi (Mobile Hotspot on Windows, Internet Sharing on a Mac), let the car join it, and open http://lac.hi in the car's browser. No dongle or adapter.
- Control the laptop from the car's touchscreen, type with the on-screen keyboard, stretch the picture to fill the screen, and hear the PC's sound through the car's speakers.
- Show your iPhone on the car's screen through the laptop, with your music staying on the car's Bluetooth.
- For use while parked. Tesla is a trademark of Tesla, Inc.; Local Area Cloud is not affiliated with Tesla.
Share to LACloud from any app
- Send photos, files, and links from any app's share sheet straight to one of your devices, or into a chat with a note. Your devices and recent chats appear right in the share sheet.
- Reply to a message from its notification, and get notified about new messages even when LACloud is closed (Settings › Messages).
- Long-press the app icon for New message and your most recent chats.
Remote control, including administrator
- Drive your Windows PC from your phone — including what usually stops a remote session dead: installers, Task Manager, elevated windows, and Windows' own administrator prompt.
- Reach a PC at its Windows sign-in screen after a restart or a power cut, and sign in to Windows remotely — so a machine that reboots overnight isn't out of reach until someone walks over to it.
- Both are off until someone at that computer turns them on, and both take administrator approval there. Nothing is stored in a cloud, and every connection made before sign-in is recorded on the PC itself.
Messaging — and rock-solid on VPN
- Private device-to-device messaging: send notes, photos, and files straight between your own devices, with reactions, replies, read receipts, and typing indicators — never through a server.
- A clear VPN indicator on the Devices tab so you can see at a glance which devices are on your tunnel.
- Messaging and remote access are far more reliable while on a VPN — sends no longer stall, and your devices reconnect fast.
Every device's files, from your phone
- Browse the shared folders on any of your online devices right from the Files tab — your home PC from your phone, your laptop from the couch.
- Select multiple files at once to download, upload, or delete — and pull a whole folder down as a single archive.
- Per-folder permissions you set and enforce on each device (read-only or read & write).
Reach your devices anywhere
- A built-in WireGuard client with saved connections — tap once to bring your devices onto a secure tunnel to a server you control (your router, your UniFi, your own WireGuard box).
- Your files, backups, and messages become reachable from anywhere — still with no third-party cloud in the middle.
Organize and manage your fleet
- Group your devices into Sites (Home, Office) and rename them so your fleet is easy to read at a glance.
- Pause or remove any device from your account at any time, from the web dashboard.
Network shares & multi-select
- Browse, map to a drive letter, and pin Windows and macOS network shares (SMB) right from the desktop app.
- Select multiple files at once — hold Shift to grab a range — to download or upload in one go.
Automatic Backup
- Pick a folder and a schedule — LACloud quietly zips it and sends a full-quality copy to another of your own devices, all on its own.
- Phones back up over Wi-Fi while charging, so it simply happens overnight. No cloud middleman, nothing downscaled.
